 How To Recover

• Try to do Physiotherapy as much as you can while you are in bed.
• Start walking small distances in your home with using of elbow crutches. 
• Waking practicing the walk  think that " Your learning the walking" and practice
• Initial days practice 5 to 10 mins gradually increase time day by day
• Try to practice walking on the steps
• For getting up the steps use your non operative leg first. Getting down use operated leg first
• Make a trial to drive 2 wheeler or Car after 6 weeks of the discharge date
• Go to the Public places whenever you fell comfort on walking it may increase our confidence level

Doctor Reviews after post Hip Replacement

21st June 2013

First review was happened with Dr Vijay  C Bose  after 3 months i.e 21st June 2013 He reviewed the  X-ray reports and  examined  the leg  & Hip movements also and expressed  hips are working  normal

Unfortunately server pain started on the both hips in the First week of July immediately I met the Doctor on 17th July.

He advised stop using two the wheeler and also adviced me use 4 wheeler for  couple of months and advised me use below pain killers for  weeks. After that pain was gradually decreased

14th Feb 2014 3rd visit

After one year from the post operative date again I met Dr Vijay c Bose Reviewed the X-ray and satisfied with my leg movements


Again   Dr asked me come for check up after 1 year i.e 2015

Most of my blog readers asking me How is the Life after Bi lateral Hip Replacement?

First  21 days

First 21 days after discharge from the hospital little bit horrible. I have faced the Below symptoms

• After reaching home getting down and going to the bed is very difficult without family members support we can't get down from the bed
• We can't turn any side that will be a cause for wound on the ankle part. I have suffered 20 days with this wound
• Taken bath sitting on chair.
• Wearing the cloths also difficult for first days
• Used  the pillow between the two legs first 10 days  

After 21 days

I have overcomed  the above problems after 6 weeks

2013 January I have the below symptoms

• By using Elbow crutches also I am not able walk small distances 
• I can't bend to take the fallen items on down

I am writing my  pre ,post operative experiences .This will be help full for the patients those who are planning for THR.

13 February 2013


7:00 AM

I have started to chennai  with my family members on 13th Feb morning flight to Chennai.My cousion booked a guest house we stayed there upto 4.00PM

5.00 PM

I have admited in the hospital.The admission procedure went very smoothly.I have taken the private room. After admiting into the Hospital hospital Staff  informed to Dr Vijay C Bose.

7.00 PM
Dr Babuji from anesthesia dept came and studied my case.I am very much comfortable with him He will speak Telugu. I expressed my concerns about the IVS. He assured me he will take take

Asked me start the Breathing exercises.

7.30PM 
Given me the normal Diet 

8.00 PM 
Samples collected for Routine Blood tests and Taken Chest X-ray & Hip lateral pelvis x-rays

8.30 PM
 Dr Vijay C Bose came and checked what are the pending completed  tests and informed me next day operation time is 8.00 AM

He confirmed me the 6th day I can go back to Hyderabad and assured me I can walk easily in the airport  which is true 

9.00PM 
Nurses asked me take a bath  twice with medicated lotion

9.30 PM
Went to sleep

Nurses waked me up done routine checks

Wearied a sox and given a injection to reduce the operation tension

7.40 AM 
Shifted to OT

In OT Dr Bapuji   give me IVs on Left-hand side. In the IV’s he injected the anthelia .Hardly with in 2 mins anthelia effect started on me.

8 AM to 12 PM
Surgeries done

 I was in semi conscious 

4.00 PM
Shifted me to room

After shifting the to room I didn't had much pain on the surgery part.Pain management was done excellent by Dr Vijay C Bose

I was thirsty statred taking water after 18 hrs. Same night I have taken the liquids llike milk & Coconut water 

No Side effects observed like High fever, infection ,Bleeding from the wound etc...

IV fluids continued the whole night

Precautions  after THR

• Try to Use the pillow between the two legs
• Use western toilet avoid Indian toilet
• Don't sit in the ground at least 3-6 months
• Sit in front seat in the car.
• India Indica is the best car for AVN patients w.r.t to comfort
• Take front row seat in the flight for more leg space
• Try to avoid 2 wheeler driving at least 3 months. I did a small experiment on this
• Don't gain the weight
• Try to avoid walking on wet floor
• Use the Elbow crutches until you feel comfort & confidence on your walk
• When your going to a Shopping mall  or any crowded  place it is advisable to use the Elbow crutches 
• Visit the Doctor consultation as per your schedule given at the time of discharge
•  Avoid taking Alcohol & Smoking at least 6 months

21.Tips to Choose Good Hospital & Doctors for Hip Replacement Surgery (THR) in India

Choosing a Good Doctor & Good Hospital  for THR

• Do the search on the Doctor & Hospital. Spend your time as much as you can.
•  If you see any negative comments try to contact the reviewer and get the feedback
•  Take the Doctor prior experiences on the THR. Find out his successes rate
• Watch the Surgery procedure videos for knowing the Surgery processes
• Take the phone numbers from Doctor earlier treated patients & talk to them directly
•  Compare the costs with other hospitals
•  Come to a conclusion where you are planning for a surgery
•  Find out the Dr will come for rounds or not until  discharge
•  Observe whether Doctor will answer to your questions or not?
•  Always better to choose a single room to avoid the other patients infections
• Take the feedback from the old patients regarding the length difference  between right & left legs
•  Leg length difference is the most important factor  in THR.
• Hyderabad one of the  reputed Doctor performed THR to my father in 1999. He made THR with 3 inch difference left & right legs 
•  Check which implant is  suitable for you. Generally it depends on your daily activities & age
• Check with that hospital is associated with your insurance company or not?
•  It is better have cashless treatment
•  Submit your insurance papers at least 10 -15 days prior so that we  might be knowing how much amount is approved for the surgery
•  Check with your doctor his availability  in the city until your discharge date.
• If he is going anywhere after your surgery it is advisable to postpone your surgery date

I got a pain on my right leg. I have suffered with pain approximately 2 weeks. I have consulted Dr P.N Prasad in Yashoda Hospitals .Initially he asked come up with a x-ray with pelvis on both hips. X-ray report was normal

He advised me to take the pain killers for one week. After 1 week pain went to severe. 

• Immediately I met him with the following symptoms
• I am not able to stand on my own 
• With the help of others support I am standing and sitting
• I am not able to climb small steps in office      

Dr Prasad was very intelligent. He asked me to go for MRI on both hips.MRI was done on 6th Oct 2010 in Yashoda Hospitals.MRI Radiologist diagnosed it was AVN stage -2
